Hazel Powell Altomonte

Hazel Powell Altomonte , age 95, passed away peacefully on Friday, January 22, 2016.  Hazel was born in Mathews, VA and lived in Jersey City until settling in Long Branch over 40 years ago.  She was a legal secretary and also worked as a secretary for Marion Auto Trucking, which was owned by her late father in law, Lawrence Altomonte.

Hazel dearly loved spending time at her family home in Mathews, Virginia and cherished each summer she spent there.   She was a creative and exquisite woman who loved to paint, and was quite an artist.  Many of her paintings hung in her home, displaying her talent.  She also loved to read, garden and cook, and was well-known for her unbelievably delicious southern sweet potato recipe, which she shared with many. It was often imitated, but never like Hazel’s! 

Beloved wife of 42 years to the late Anthony Altomonte; devoted daughter of the late Waylon & Fanny (Sadler) Powell; loving sister of the late Dorothy Hudgins and Charles Powell; dear sister-in-law of Filomena Zazzarino; cherished Aunt of Diana Swenson & husband Arthur, Angelo Zazzarino & wife Theresa and the late Guy Hudgins, Jr.; dear close cousin to Geneva Brandal & her family.   

Visitation from Riotto Funeral Home on Sunday, January 31, 2016 from 3-7 PM. Funeral on Monday, 10 AM at the funeral home.  Funeral Mass at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church at 11 AM.  Interment Holy Name Cemetery.
