Nancy Del Giodice

Nancy Virginia Del Giodice (nee Dispoto), 92, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, February 22, 2018.

Nancy, born Nazarena, was the beloved wife of 65 years to Nicholas E. Del Giodice; devoted mother to Marie Bihuniak and husband Joseph; Tina; Nicholas; and Joseph Del Giodice; loving grandmother of ConnieAnne Bihuniak; and dear sister of Carmela Baccile.

Nancy was a longtime parishioner and communicant of St. Anne’s and Holy Rosary Churches in Jersey City and St. Ann’s Church in Hoboken. With her mother Concetta, grandmother Vicenza, and sisters Gina, Marie, and Carmela, Nancy spent her childhood, adolescent, and young adult years as a devoted member of the St. Jude Novena Community at St. Lucy’s Church in Jersey City. Decades later, in the 1980’s, she fervently participated in the peaceful prayer protest to save the same St. Lucy’s Church from demolition. (Since then, St. Lucy’s has served as home to the Franciska Residence, a wellness and support center for those living with HIV/AIDS.) Nancy was an active member and past officer of The Legion of Mary, Padre Pio Society, St. Joseph Prayer Group, Rosarian Society, and St. Anthony Prayer Group. As part of her participation in her parishes and neighborhood, she regularly cooked for and visited home-bound members of the community. In the mid 1960’s, while living with her family in Goldsboro, North Carolina, she enthusiastically served as a volunteer girls’ physical education teacher at St. Mary’s School. Nancy also enjoyed sewing and all manner of home crafts. As a daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend, one of her greatest joys was cooking and spending time at the family table with her many loved ones.

Nancy was predeceased by her husband Nicholas; parents Concetta and Baldassare Dispoto; sisters Gina and Marie; and brothers Joseph, James, Albert, and Gabriel. She is survived by loving members of the Del Giodice, Dispoto, and Bihuniak families; many nieces and nephews; fellow parishioners; and dear friends.

Visitation is on Tuesday, February 27, 2018, 2:00pm to 4:00pm and 7:00pm to 9:00pm at RIOTTO FUNERAL HOME & Cremation Company, 3205 John F. Kennedy Blvd., Jersey City, NJ 07306.  Funeral will begin on Wednesday, February 28, 2018, 10:00am at the funeral home.  Funeral Mass will follow 11:00am at St. Ann's Church, 704 Jefferson St., Hoboken. Interment will take place at Holy Name Cemetery, Jersey City.
