Anthony Gabriel Brando (Dutchy), 93, of Pohatcong, entered into his eternal home on July 25, 2019, in Pittsburgh Pennsylvania, while surrounded by a roomful of family.
He was born March 29, 1926 in Jersey City, NJ, to Nicholas and Margaret Brando. Anthony lived in Jersey City for the majority of his life before moving to Woodbridge, NJ, then settling in Pohatcong, NJ. He served in both the United States Navy, and the United States Army, during WWII and the Korean War. He was a devout Roman Catholic who had unwavering love for, and trust in, Jesus Christ. His greatest joy was time spent with family. He had a lifelong passion for photography and inspired that same passion in many others. He was a very content, gentle, kind man, who was constantly joking around to bring warm smiles to everyone he encountered.
Anthony is survived by the love of his life, his wife of 57 years: Shirley; His beloved children: Michele, Anthony Jr., Joseph, Cindy and her spouse Laura. His cherished grandchildren: Erika and her husband Ryan, Shaina, Gavin and his wife Danielle, and Craig. His adored great-grandchildren: Vincent, Franco, and Angela. His dear sister: Marie Strakowski. Also surviving are numerous adoring nieces, and nephews. Anthony was predeceased by his siblings: Joseph, Vito, Vincent, Nicholas, Catherine, Emily, Mary, and Jean.
Anthony was admired, respected, and loved by everyone who was lucky enough to meet and know him.
The family will be receiving visitors for Anthony on Saturday, August 3, 2019, from 8:30 AM to 10:00 AM at the funeral home (For GPS please use our parking lot address: 14 Stagg St., Jersey City). A Funeral Mass will follow the visitation and will take place at St. John the Baptist Church at 10:30 AM, Jersey City. Interment is at Holy Name Cemetery, Jersey City.
