Bertha D. Torres, 64, a proud resident of Jersey City, Heights Section and beloved owner of La Concha Restaurant on Central Avenue passed away on Tuesday, April 16, 2019. Many patrons near and from afar would visit La Concha Restaurant for her delicious homemade Spanish food. Greeting you with a big smile and an "Hola!" nothing made her happier than filling your stomachs with quite possibly the best Spanish food you ever had.
Born in the Dominican Republic, Bertha began her 30 year career as a restaurateur in Hoboken and settled in the current location on Central Ave. Open 7 days a week, she was known for her roast pork, beef stew, and beans. Her children and her grandson helped run her family-style restaurant and the menu would change daily.
Bertha's love of cooking and the people she served motivated her to work hard everyday. She was always very grateful for the blessings in her life and gave back to the community every chance she had. Whether it was patrons in need of a meal or a poor family in another country, Bertha would give of herself to help those in need. She will be missed greatly by her neighborhood, her loving family and many dear friends.
Bertha was the beloved mother of Gilfredo O. Dejardens, Nathalia B. Dejardens and Rogelio E. Dejardens. She was the cherished grandmother of Isaiah N. Ortiz-Dejardens. Bertha was also survived by loving sisters, brothers, nieces and nephews.
Her legacy will live on through her three children who will continue to honor their mother's hard work by running the family business.
