Dr. Juana M. Malave, 58, of Jersey City, NJ, passed on July 7, 2018.
Dr. Malave was born on August 29,1959, in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, to Bortolo Malave and Valentina Garcia.
She attended St. Michael High School in Jersey City, NJ. She continued her education at the College of Saint Elizabeth in Morristown, NJ, where she earned her bachelors degree, then attended Nova Southeastern University for her Masters before finishing at Florida State University with her doctorate degree.
She enjoyed traveling the world in search of new adventures. In between her adventures, Juana was a teacher for Miami-Dade Public Schools and a professor for 23 years at Nova Southeastern University in South Florida. Dr. Malave finished her teaching career at PS 23. Mahatma Gandi school in in Jersey City, NJ.
She is survived by her children: Fredrick J. Vega, Jessica Vega, Daniel Deautriell and Katie M. Deautriell; her brother and sisters: Argentina Garcia, Lucy Malave and Gregory Malave; her Grandchildren: Valentina A. Rivera, Alexander T. Walker and Juliet M. Vega; several nephews; and many special friends.
Visitation for Juana will be held on Thursday, July 12, 2018, from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM and from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM at the Riotto Funeral Home (For GPS use Address: 14 Stagg Street, Jersey City, NJ 07306). Friends and family are invited to attend a Funeral Mass for Juana, on Friday, July 13, 2018, 11:00 AM at St. Aloysius Church (691 West Side Ave., Jersey City, NJ 07304). There will be no visitation at the funeral home prior to the funeral mass. Interment will take place following the Funeral Mass, at Holy Name Cemetery, Jersey City.
In lieu of flowers, the family is asking for individuals to send donations to CarePoint Bayonne Medical Center to support the medical bills of the cancer patients of Dr. D. Iyengar, in memory of Juana Deautriell. Acknowledgments may be sent to her daughter, Katie.
