Hector “ Ivan” Figueroa, age 44, of Jersey City was called to be an angel of God on December 21, 2019 at Jersey City Medical Center with his family by his side. He was a fighter.
Hector was born March 18, 1975 in San Juan Puerto Rico. He was the son of his surviving parents Carmen and Hector Figueroa. Hector attended St Mary’s all throughout grammar and high school where he learned his passion for baseball. He was no stranger to the acclaimed Roberto Clemente Field on 6th street. Hector was a phenomenal player and went on to play college level baseball for Fairleigh Dickinson University (FDU) on a full scholarship. After his short time at FDU due to injury, he continued his passion by Umpiring at Roberto Clemente and helping other young kids to find their greatness.
He dedicated his time working over 25 years for the City of Jersey City. He was a true native to Jersey City. He was one of the lights of our city. He cared for others, he never went without making someone laugh, always smiling and spreading good vibes. Hector’s world was overjoyed when his daughter, Christine was born in 2008 and became a loving father. He is survived by his sister Melissa Figueroa, brother Omar Figueroa, his nephew and his loving daughter Christine Figueroa. He will be missed but never forgotten.
