John 'Wishy" E. Harnett

At 12:04 PM on Sunday, August 20, 2017, the Lord called John "Wishy" Harnett home. John was born on February 8, 1937, and was a lifelong resident of Jersey City.
During his life he was known as a devoted husband, loving Father and Grandfather, and as a loyal and devoted friend. Those who knew him well, knew him to be hard but fair. You always knew where he stood, and you never doubted his love and commitment. Reading, golf, fishing, playing cards, and craps were among his favorite pastimes. He served as a Jersey City Policeman for 26 years before retiring as a detective. He considered it an honor and privelege to be one of Jersey City's finest.

He was predeceased by his Father: Morris Harnett; His Mother: Nellie Gajdzis; And his Sister: Joan Garvey. 
He is survived by his Wife: Mary Basille Harnett; His Son: Anthony and his wife Kim; His Daughter: Judy; His Son: Peter and His Wife Liz; And his Grandchildren, Mackenzie, Bryson, Jeremy, Devin, Dylan, And Caleb. Also surviving is his Sister, Catherine Driscoll.

A Visitation will be held on Wednesday, August 23, 2017, 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at RIOTTO FUNERAL HOME & Cremation Company, 3205 John F. Kennedy Blvd, Jersey City, NJ 07306. The Funeral will begin on Thursday, August 24, 2017, 10:00 AM at the Funeral Home. A Funeral Mass will follow, 11:00 AM at Holy Rosary Church, Jersey City. Interment will take place at Holy Cross Cemetery, North Arlington. In lieu of flowers, the family is asking that donations be made in John's name, to the "York Street Project" (http://yorkstreetproject.org/donate/).
