Jose Antonio Masa, age 77, passed away at Jersey City Medical Center Hospital on Saturday April 7, 2018. Service will be at 10am at St. Aloysius Church on Thursday, April 12th. Friends may visit from 4pm-8pm on Wednesday, April 11th at Riotto Funeral Home.
Jose, lovingly known as Cheo was born on April 21st, 1940 in Aguas Buena, Puerto Rico to Jose and Rafaela Masa. Survived by his second wife, Mercedes Martinez. Jose was a loyal, dedicated hard worker. He started at the early age of 17 as a butcher at Hagues Bros. Company, then Leo Keller Company, eventually opening his own grocery store, finally moving on to work at Jersey City Medical Center from where he eventually retired after 21 years.
When not working, Jose enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren. He took great pleasure in serving others every chance he had. He was an avid baseball fan and loved taking long walks along the waterfront. His favorite pastime was lounging on his hammock with a cherry blend pipe.
He is survived by his loving wife, Mercedes; his children Nelly, Aury, Yolanda and Jose. His cherished grandchildren Alexiss Anthony, Kristian Marcus, FaithAurora, Josiah Paz, Hezekiah Hope, David Daniel. His brother and sisters, Miguel, Josefa, Maria Socorro and Providencia. Countless nieces and nephews. Jose was predeceased by his parents, Rafaela, Jose, his brothers, Santiago, Julio, Rafael and Esteban and his sisters Anitin, Juana, Lucy, Francesca, Flora and Iris
