Luis A. Santiago, age 67, passed away peacefully on August 25, 2019. He was born in New York City to the parents of the late, Luis Amado Santiago and to the caring mother, Isabel Santiago Rodriguez. He was a graduate of Cornell University, and received his M.B.A. from Columbia University. After 25 years of working in the corporate world, he decided to dedicate his efforts to empowering and mentoring children here in Jersey City. He currently worked as the business administrator and board secretary of the Dr. Lena Edwards Academic Charter School, Jersey City.
He was a proud member to various associations, even holding titles as a founding board member, vice president/president, chair of development, a treasurer, and a board of trustees to the Hispanic Association of AT&T Employees (HISPA), to the National Society of Hispanic MBA's (NSHMBA), National Hispanic Corporate Council (NHCC), Hispanic Issues Policy Committees, ASPIRA of New Jersey, a board member to the Human Rights Campaign Business Council, Brunswick Condominium Association, the Liberty Square Neighborhood Association, Hudson Pride Connections, the Lofts at Westside Station II, and he affiliated with the New Jersey Association of School Board Officials.
He is survived by his loving brother, Jose "Willie" Santiago and his wife, Iris; his nephew, William Santiago; and his cat, Fafa; by his many caring relatives who loved him deeply. He is also survived by his many friends and co-workers who deeply respected, loved, and cared for him. He will be remembered for his dedication and will be missed by all.
A memorial service is on Saturday, September 7, 2019 at 10:00 AM at St. Patrick's Church, 492 Bramhall Ave., Jersey City, NJ.
