Maria Maimone, our beloved and kind soul
Maria Maimone, devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt, passed away on September 27, 2018, at the age of 78 years after a brief illness.
Maria, husband Santo, and extended family members were residents of Jersey City Heights for most of their lives, having immigrated from Sicily, Italy in the 1960’s. Maria and Santo were the proud owners of a Fruit and Vegetable store on Central Avenue, and also on Hutton Street of Jersey City Heights. Maria was also a talented seamstress and a member of the International Ladies’ Garment Workers’ Union (ILGWU). 
Maria will be forever remembered for her exceptional generosity, kindness of heart for everyone, and devotion to her family and many relatives.  She was a fabulous cook and gifted custom tailor.  Her unconditional love for all and savory cooking will forever remain in the hearts and minds of those who were fortunate to have known her.  Maria was devoted to her faith and a dutiful congregant of Saint Nicholas Church of Jersey City.  Maria was also a loving caregiver to her husband, Santo, for many years prior to her going home to be with our Lord Jesus Christ.  Her happiness came from encouraging her children, nephews and nieces, and grandchildren to pursue their own individual dreams and aspirations.
Maria is survived by her husband of 53 years, Santo, children Maria (“Marisa”), Antonia (“Tina”), and Anthony (“Nino”) and 6 grandchildren.  Maria will also be forever remembered by her numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family and dear friends.
A celebration of Maria’s life will be extended to family and friends as follows: Wake/viewing gathering will be held on Sunday, September 30, 2018 at Riotto Funeral Home (3205 John F. Kennedy Blvd, Jersey City) between 4-6 pm.  Funeral mass will be held on Monday, October 1 at 10 a.m. at Saint Nicholas Church (122 Ferry Street, Jersey City).  Burial will follow Mass at Holy Cross Catholic Cemeteries, 340 Ridge Road, North Arlington, N.J.).
