Stefan Pyrtej, 92, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 14, 2020. He was born in Smerekowiec, Poland to the late parents, Daniel and Jolanta. Stefan immigrated to the United States and worked for the Jersey City Welding Company doing various iron welding for 22 years. He will be remembered for his work on airplane hangers and the Statue of Liberty. He worked very hard to support his family and he’ll be missed by those who cared for him. He also enjoyed listening to old folk music.
Stefan is survived by his loving wife, Eufrozyna and his son, Andrew. He is predeceased by his parents; his siblings, Anna Halunka and Mary Jadlowski; his nieces, Anna Berliner and Mela Pekarek; and by other family members.
Visitation is on Friday, January 17, 2020 from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM (Parastas 7:30 PM) at Riotto Funeral Home & Cremation Company, 3205 John F. Kennedy Blvd., Jersey City, NJ 07306 (www.riottofh.com) (For GPS use parking lot address: 14 Stagg Street, Jersey City). Funeral will begin on Saturday, January 18, 2020, 9:00 AM at the funeral
home. Funeral Mass will follow 10:00 AM at St. Peter & Paul Ukrainian Church, Jersey City. Interment will take place at Holy Cross Cemetery, 340 Ridge Rd., North Arlington.
