“Of High Grace”

February 5, 1949 - September 3, 2025 

With unwavering strength, deep-seated faith, and a fearless spirit, she rose above oppression and silence, pressing forward with extraordinary determination. She refused to be defined by limitations and met every challenge with perseverance and grace. Her presence commanded respect — powerful, deeply resilient, and steadfast in her pursuit of a life filled with dignity, possibility, and love.

A true pioneer, she forged a path to a brighter future. With remarkable courage, she journeyed to the United States from the Dominican Republic on her own and later single-handedly brought her family, securing opportunities they might never have known otherwise.

She could take the ordinary and weave wisdom and magic into it—shaping luminous memories and experiences that became both guidance and gift. She was a storyteller, fierce debater of politics, a pillar of faith, and a voice impossible to ignore.

She was like the elephant matriarch she so revered— moving like a mountain that has learned to walk—vast, unshakable, yet touched by grace. Blending power with elegance, she breathed life into everything she inhabited. Timeless and majestic, the earth and the sky whispered their secrets to her. While she kept their deepest mysteries, she offered fragments of their truth, droplets of wisdom, to all who crossed her path.

Protector was among her greatest callings. For 25 years, she safeguarded children as a Crossing Guard, guiding them to safety with the same vigilance she gave her own kin. Anyone who met her felt immediately enfolded in her care—her devotion extended outward, encompassing neighbor, friend, and stranger alike.

Her legacy endures most deeply in the foundations she instilled within her children: to think independently, to fight relentlessly for what matters, to draw strength from faith and to believe that nothing beyond is reach when you “use your imagination”. 

She is survived by her four children, seven grandchildren, and five siblings. She is predeceased by her brother.

A visitation will be held on Saturday, September 13, 2025 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Riotto Funeral Home & Cremation Company, 3205 John F. Kennedy Blvd. Jersey City, NJ 07306. (For GPS navigation it is best to use the parking lot address: 14 Stagg Street). Private cremation will follow.

“De Alta Gracia”

Con una fuerza inquebrantable, una fe profunda y un espíritu intrépido, se alzó por encima de la opresión y el silencio, avanzando con extraordinaria determinación. Se negó a dejarse definir por las limitaciones y enfrentó cada desafío con perseverancia y gracia. Su presencia inspiraba respeto: poderosa, profundamente resiliente y firme en su búsqueda de una vida llena de dignidad, posibilidades y amor.

Una verdadera pionera, forjó un camino hacia un futuro más brillante. Con una valentía extraordinaria, viajó sola a Estados Unidos desde la República Dominicana y más tarde trajo consigo a su familia, asegurándose oportunidades que de otro modo tal vez nunca habrían conocido.

Podía tomar lo cotidiano y tejer sabiduría y magia en él, dando forma a recuerdos y experiencias luminosas que se convirtieron en guía y regalo. Era una narradora, una feroz debatiente política, un pilar de fe y una voz ineludible.

Era como la matriarca elefante que tanto veneraba: se movía como una montaña que ha aprendido a caminar, vasta, inquebrantable, pero tocada por la gracia. Combinando poder y elegancia, infundió vida a todo lo que habitaba. Atemporal y majestuosa, la tierra y el cielo le susurraban sus secretos. Mientras guardaba sus misterios más profundos, ofrecía fragmentos de su verdad, gotas de sabiduría, a todos los que se cruzaban en su camino.

La protectora fue una de sus mayores vocaciones. Durante 25 años, protegió a niños como guardia de cruce, guiándolos hacia un lugar seguro con la misma vigilancia que brindaba a sus propios parientes. Cualquiera que la conociera se sentía inmediatamente envuelto en su cuidado; su devoción se extendía hacia afuera, abarcando a vecinos, amigos y desconocidos por igual.

Su legado perdura profundamente en los cimientos que inculcó en sus hijos: pensar con independencia, luchar incansablemente por lo que importa, encontrar la fuerza en la fe y creer que nada está más allá del alcance cuando se usa la imaginación.

Le sobreviven sus cuatro hijos, siete nietos y cinco hermanos. Su hermano falleció antes que ella. 

El velatorio se llevará a cabo el Sábado 13 de Septiembre de 2025, de 6:00 a 8:00 pm, en la Funeraria y Cremación Riotto, ubicada en 3205 John F. Kennedy Blvd., Jersey City, NJ 07306. (Para la navegación GPS, se recomienda usar la dirección del estacionamiento: 14 Stagg Street). Posteriormente, se realizará una cremación privada.
