Amie Crystal Baldwin, 22, passed away on Monday, January 27, 2020 in Raleigh, North Carolina. Amie was pursuing a PhD in toxicology at North Carolina State University. If you knew her, you would know that she was funny, smart, impatient, and hard-working. If you really knew her, you know that she often referred to Earth as “this big rock” and pizza as “the apex predator.” She had a soft spot for “babies,” which could be any child under 18, and spent her college years tutoring children from underprivileged backgrounds. If you sat near her long enough, she would find a way to bring up her microbiology research, particularly on Xylella Fastidiosa, a plant pathogen she liked to call “that beautiful boi.” There are many things to be said about Amie’s life, but—much like her favorite stories about deadly bacterial strains—it resists summation and would take a very long time to understand. The family wishes and hopes that your memories of her make you laugh sometimes and cry sometimes and remind you that nothing lasts forever, but you are very lucky to have shared this big rock with her while she was around.
She is survived by her mother, Myrna Baldwin, and her sisters; Leah, Erin, and Hana.
