Anthony Lambiase Obituary

Anthony J. Lambiase, 82 of Jersey City, entered into eternal life on Wednesday, July 1, 2020 at Hackensack University Medical Center.  Born November 7, 1937 at the Margaret Hague to the late Gabriel & Maria (nee: Russo) Lambiase, one of fifteen children, he was a lifelong resident of downtown Jersey City and proud graduate of Ferris High School. 

He served in the US Airforce for 4 years during peacetime and on September 3, 1960 in Holy Rosary Church, he married “The girl across the street” the love of his life, Christina A. Orrico. 

Anthony was immensely involved in his community and church, Holy Rosary.   He served as Parish Trustee, Chairman of the Financial Council, Chairman of the Annual Parish Feast, President of the Holy Name Society, Director of the Altar Boys Society (with 75 young men), he was the Creator & Director of Holy Rosary Church’s CYO, a Catholic Youth Organization which formed multiple girls and boys basketball teams, girls soft ball, 2 soccer teams, 3 track team and teen groups. For over 20 years, he was THE cook for Annual St. Joseph Supper sponsored by the Holy Name Society.  He was also 3rd Vice Commander of CWV Post 1536, Downtown Memorial.

Not only was his Church important to him but so was the wellbeing of the residents in downtown Jersey City and “The Village”.  Anthony was a Ward Council Candidate in 1981 & 1997, A Ward Leader that fought many adverse political battles, served as President of the Village Block Association (now the Village Neighborhood Association) where he championed improving quality of life.   He retired from a long and honorable career the City of Jersey City as the Director of Zoning.

Anthony lived an amazing life, loving and caring for his family, friends and even those he did not know.  He did everything for others and led by example.   He often shared quotes and one of his favorites was “Lead,Follow or Get Out of the Way.”  He was the Man, the Myth, the Legend and will be greatly missed.

He is predeceased his siblings; Joseph Lambiase, Madeline Smith, Vivian Gough, Yolanda D’Elia, Thomas Lambiase, Elvira Lambiase, Alfred Lambiase, Salvatore “Ralph” Lambiase & Marguerite Berardi.

He is the devoted husband of Christina “Tina” Lambiase, dedicated father of Francis, Charles & his wife, Josye, & Jennifer Rykola & her husband Stephen, proud and loving grandfather of Anthony, Joseph, Charles, Jr., Mariah, Stephen & Michael and of his precious great granddaughter, Gianna Lambiase.  He is also survived by his sister, Mary Grace Cologero.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, July 5, 2020 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Riotto Funeral Home (www.RiottoFH.com). Relatives and Friends are invited to attend the funeral on Monday morning at 9:00 a.m. at the Funeral Home.   A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Rosary Church, 344 Sixth St., Jersey City, NJ.  Mausoleum Entombment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, North Arlington.

In lieu of flowers donation to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital or Holy Rosary Church in his memory.
