Antonio Caporale, 88, passed away on December 11, 2024, after a long illness. Antonio was born on April 17, 1936, to the late Giuseppe Caporale and Silvia Gentile, in Palomonte, Italy.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Josephine; children, Joseph and Tony; daughters-in-law, Aizhan and Barbara; grandchildren, Margaret, Christopher, Adiya, John, Michael, and Matthew; sister, Maria; brother, Pietro; and many beloved brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nephews, nieces, and cousins.
Antonio (or Tony), affectionately dubbed “the Mayor of Downtown,” was a fixture in the Downtown section of Jersey City, where he lived and worked most of his life. Walking throughout his adopted city, he made many friends and admirers. Tony’s greatest joy was spending time with his family and friends -- enjoying a good meal, making sly jokes, and helping everyone along the way. A gifted cabinetmaker and carpenter, Tony was a valued professional in his field who was also happy to share his skills with family, friends, and acquaintances.
Tony was preceded in death by his parents, Giuseppe and Silvia, and by his brothers Umberto and Gerardo.
