Antonio Figueroa (1942–2024)
Antonio Figueroa, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and a distinguished professional, passed away on September 5, 2024, at the age of 81. Born on October 14, 1942, in Bacon, Philippines, Antonio lived a life defined by achievement, dedication, and love for his family and community.
Antonio graduated from the University of the Philippines with degrees in Accounting and Law. He passed the boards to become a CPA and passed the bar exam to become a lawyer. His academic success laid the groundwork for a remarkable career in banking and finance. After moving to the United States in 1980, he held a series of prominent roles, including Senior Auditor, Director of Internal Audit and Senior Vice President at various financial institutions. Antonio was employed by companies based in the Philippines, Japan, Saudi Arabia and the United States. He also co-founded Ameritax, a tax consultancy that served countless individuals and businesses.
Antonio was passionate about preserving and promoting his Filipino heritage. He served as Chairman of the Board of the Folklorico Filipino Dance Company, where he championed the arts and cultural traditions of the Philippines. He accompanied the group to 2 World's Fairs representing the Philippines in 1992 in Barcelona, Spain and in 1998 in Lisbon, Portugal.
Antonio’s commitment to community service included being a member of both JCI Philippine-New York (NY) and the Hudson Jaycees (NJ) which was extended by JCI Philippine-New York. He was also a member of the JCI NYS Senate Group and Toastmasters International, where he helped create and support the Jaycees Toastmasters club and held the role of District Governor, helping to inspire and mentor many in the art of communication and leadership.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Nevillia; his children, Jose, the eldest, and his wife, Geraldine Sarmiento; Grace, the only daughter, and her husband, Ray Tenorio; Leo, the youngest; his younger brother Ramon, sister in law Eileen, nieces and nephew Denise, Nicole, Bianca and Leopoldo from Sydney, Australia and his cherished grandchildren, Gabriel and Julia Tenorio. Antonio will be remembered for his kindness, integrity, and the indelible impact he left on both his professional field and his community.
Antonio Figueroa’s legacy will live on through the lives he touched, and he will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
Visitation will be held Friday, September 13, 2024, 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at RIOTTO FUNERAL HOME & Cremation Company, 3205 John F. Kennedy Blvd., Jersey City, NJ 07306.
