Barbara Radu, a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and aunt passed away peacefully on September 18, 2025, at the age of 86. Born on October 12, 1938, in Jersey City, NJ, Barbara was the daughter of Sadie (Chopki) DeGeorge and Frank DeGeorge.
Barbara dedicated many years of service to the Jersey City Public Schools, working as both a crossing guard and custodian. A lifelong sports enthusiast, Barbara was a passionate fan of the New York Yankees. Whether watching the game at home or discussing the latest scores, her love for the team was a constant source of joy and pride. She also found joy in life's simple pleasures - the thrill of a slot machine in Atlantic City, trying her luck at scratch off lottery tickets, and the quiet satisfaction of putting thoughts to paper through poetry.
Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Sadie DeGeorge, her sister Francine Pajewski, and her daughter Heather Gaedt-DeCandia. She is survived by her brother, Frank (Skee) DeGeorge (Charlotte), and her children-Joseph Rivelli and Cheryl Perri. She was a proud grandmother to Alyssa Leach (Ed), Alexandra Grazide (Marco), Brittney Rivelli, Joseph Rivelli, Brielle Gaedt, Braelynn Rivelli, and Ashlyn DeCandia. Her great-grandchildren, Sydney Leach, Peyton Leach, Avery Leach and Vylette Gaedt-Verdejo brought her immeasurable joy and love.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the visitation at Riotto Funeral Home, 3205 John F. Kennedy Blvd., Jersey City, NJ 07306 on Wednesday, September 24th from 9-11 A.M. (For GPS it is best to use parking lot address: 14 Stagg St.). Interment will follow at Holy Name Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers the family would appreciate donations made in Barbara's memory to the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. www.stjude.org
