Breda Christine Melly (née Sugrue), 86, formerly of Jersey City, entered into eternal rest on Saturday, September 7, 2024. Born in Kenneigh, Waterville, CO. Kerry , Ireland, Breda embraced life with grace, strength, and unwavering faith.
A devoted mother, Breda faced the profound challenge of raising her three children alone after the untimely loss of her husband at the age of 37. Despite the hardships, she provided endless love and care to her family, embodying kindness and compassion in all she did. A devout Catholic, Breda’s faith was central to her life, guiding her as she nurtured her beloved family. Her selflessness extended beyond her immediate family as she cared for everyone around her, making her a constant source of support and comfort to all who knew her.
Breda was a proud Irish-American, deeply connected to her Irish roots and her adopted country. Her love for her heritage and homeland was as strong as her devotion to her family and faith.
Breda was predeceased by her beloved husband, Michael Melly her parents Michael and Mary, brothers Jimmy, Bob and Sean, and sister Maureen Callan Sugrue. She is survived by her loving children, Michael Melly and his wife Wendy, Jason Melly, and Sharon Cannestro and her husband Nicholas. She also leaves behind her cherished grandchildren, Lauren, Jessica, William, Jack, and Daniel, who will forever hold her memory in their hearts. Her beloved brother Patrick Sugrue her loving sisters Caite Mccarthy and Eileen Houston. A host of nieces, nephews relatives, and friends.
Breda's legacy of love, strength, and devotion will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to know her.
Visitation is Wednesday, September 11, 2024, from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM at the Riotto Funeral Home (For GPS, please use our parking lot address: 14 Stagg Street, Jersey City, NJ 07306). Funeral Services are Thursday, September 12, 2024, 9:30 AM at the funeral home followed by an 10:30 AM mass at St. Joseph's Church, Jersey City. Cremation will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Breda's name to the St. Jude Children's Hospital at www.stjude.org/donate.
