Born in Ambato, Ecuador on September 23, 1939, he finished his secondary education and joined the Ecuadorian Navy. From a young boy, he became a life-long lover of music. He enjoyed singing so much that, around ten years of age, he once skipped school to make his way to a singing competition for children at a local radio station. He won the competition and won the prize: a sandwich. Eventually, as a devoted amateur, he developed a fine, resonant voice and enjoyed singing boleros and pasillos at local festivals and theaters. Although singing remained a first love of his, he pursued education as a dental mechanic and earned his trade certificate.

In the mid-1990s, he travelled to the US and for many years lived in Queens, New York, where he worked as a dental mechanic. In 2010, he moved to Jersey City, New Jersey, where he lived close to his family members and continued working as a dental mechanic until his medical condition incapacitated him.

He loved taking walks, cooking, spending time with his family, and going on trips. His family will scatter a bit of his ashes on the Hoboken harbor and take the rest to Ambato, Ecuador, for his final resting place.
