Carmella Di Staulo, passed away on Thursday, January 14, 2021, age 93. Carmella was born on March 3, 1927 to Filomena and Peter Parziale in the “downtown” section of Jersey City, where she attended St. Mary’s grammar school and Ferris High School. Carmella was known to all by her nickname “Chubby”.
While in high school she met her beloved husband, John. She remained dedicated to him when he was a paratrooper in WWII. They married in 1949 and were together for 61 years until his death in 2010.
Before marriage, she worked at Muller Macaroni and Ryerson Steel companies. After marriage and the start of their family, Chubby and John relocated “uptown”, settling in the Lincoln Park area to raise their five children, in a home filled with many visitors and much joy, where her children’s friends were always welcome, and where she resided for the past 56 years.
Carmella’s family was her life. There was never a better mother and wife. She was called a saint by many who knew her for her devotion to her husband. She was loving and caring to everyone, instilling these same values in her children.
She was known to all for her delicious meals and the ability to put out a feast in a few minutes whenever anyone dropped in. In the prime of her life, she enjoyed spending time at her homes in Scottsdale, AZ and Delray Beach, Fl.
Carmella was predeceased by her husband John, her son Peter, her bothers-in-law Joseph Cusmano, Joe(Connie), Michael, James(Ida), sisters-in-law Anne Mayo(Dominic), Marie Balaza (Charles).
She is survived by her children John(MaryLou), Diane(Bill), Mark(Ondrea) and Susan, daughter-in-law Margaret, grandchildren Danielle Kernodle(Tom), Peter, Christopher(Laura) Melissa, John, Jennifer, Jesse, Dylan and Harlee, great grandchildren Thomas, James, Violet, Alice, Finley and Joseph.
She is also survived by her sister Virginia(Gina) Cusmano, her sister & brother-in-law Lucy and Joseph French, her dear friend Anne Zampella, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Her extended family and lifelong friends include the Zampella, Gangemi, Riotto, Perrella, and Hanley families. She will sadly be missed by all who knew her.
