Carmen Ortiz Obituary

Carmen Sara Vegara was the first born child of Sara Fuentes and Carmelo Vergara.

She was born on May 15, 1941 in Hato Rey, Puerto Rico. At a very young age she left Puerto Rico to live in the United States. She attended P.S.#5 school in Jersey City.

As a teenager, Sara, as she is known to her family, loved ballroom dancing with her brother Ivan, sports, and was a die hard Mets fan. One day a young rebel, Angel Luis Ortiz, caught her attention and he was immediately mesmerized by her beauty.  Soon after on November 3rd, 1962 they were married.  Shortly thereafter, they had three lovely children. Angel Luis, Marie Maddalena, and Kasim.

In the early 70's Sara was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. Although she was sick, that did not deter her from becoming the best mom, daughter,  big sister, and friend.
She maintained good humor even in spite of her physical limitations. Later in life she received Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior and this brought great peace and comfort in her suffering.  She loved singing hymns and listening to Billy Graham.

A big part of our comfort was witnessing our father Angel take care of his sweetheart, our mom. As true to his vows as a husband in sickness and in health, dad provided the love and care for his love for the last 40 years 24/7, 365.  He is her true guardian angel.

She is predeceased by her brother Ivan Rene. She leaves behind three adult children, six grandchildren, a son in Law, Patrick Lisa, two daughters in Law, Rosie and Lydia, as well as the following siblings: Maria Teresa, Luisa, Yolanda, Carmen Lydia, and Carmelo. Mom we will miss you and love you.

Enjoy your walking with Jesus and grandma. Love you.
