Carolyn Menter, born on April 17, 1960, in Jersey City, New Jersey, to the late James and Mary Menter, peacefully transitioned from this life, surrounded by her loved ones, on Monday, June 24, 2024, at the Jersey City Medical Center.
Carolyn received her education from the Jersey City Public School system and attended William L. Dickinson High School. She furthered her studies at Hudson County Community College and Stevens Institute of Technology, earning a certification in Computer Repair and Technology.
Carolyn dedicated many years to the Jersey City Housing Authority, serving as an Assistant Program Coordinator for the after-school and summer programs at the A. Harry Moore public housing complex. Though she briefly worked for the New Jersey Turnpike Authority, her passion for community and children drew her back to her role as Program Coordinator, where she remained until the program's conclusion and her retirement.
In 1978, Carolyn began her family with her long-time sweetheart, the late Norman Paschal. From this sacred union, two children were born: Arthur Omar Terou Menter and Djavana Kim Menter. Her family was her world. After Norman's passing, they leaned on each other for support.
A maverick and advocate for her community, especially its children, Carolyn touched countless lives. Known affectionately as “Ms. Menter,” her impact continued to be felt long after her
retirement. She was overjoyed with the birth of her grandchildren, embracing her role as “MeMa” with pure joy. Her love for jazz and old-school rhythm and blues music continues to resonate within us all. Carolyn was the life of the party, always the first to dance and make sure everyone was having a good time. Her vibrant spirit and infectious joy lit up every room she entered.
Carolyn had an enormous amount of love for her nieces and nephews, always deeply caring about their wellbeing. She made it a priority to be actively involved in their lives, offering guidance,
support, and unconditional love. Her nurturing spirit and genuine concern for their happiness and success left a lasting impression on each of them.
To honor her vibrant spirit, Carolyn’s family has chosen the Life Flame urn from the Works of Art Collection, symbolizing the memory of her life that can never be extinguished. This beautiful symbol reflects the enduring light and warmth she brought into the lives of everyone she touched.
