Daniel J Norton 99, of Jersey City, NJ, passed away on Tuesday July 15, 2025.
Danny “Buddy” lived nearly a century marked by courage, humility, quiet strength, and
unwavering kindness. A proud veteran of the United States Army, he served honorably during
the Korean War, a chapter of his life he seldom spoke of, but which shaped his deep sense of
purpose and integrity.
A life-long resident of Jersey City, Danny attended St. Patrick’s grammer School and was a
graduate of Snyder High School. He was employed for over 35 years by Henkel North America
and had a love of fishing and helping others.
He eagerly served his community whether through his military service or volunteer work. One
fine example occurred in 2010, when Dan, at the age of 85 embarked on a six-month project of
scraping, priming, and painting the iron fence in front of St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic
Church in Jersey City. Dan was later recognized in a Jersey Journal article as the “kind volunteer”
who is “very neat, professional and the best-dressed painter.” Danny also served as a past Post
Commander of the local American Legion organization. His quiet legacy of generosity and
goodwill has touched many.
Dan was a devoted husband, step father, uncle, grandfather, great grandfather, and fiercely loyal
friend to many.
He is survived by his brother Charles Norton of Spring Lake Heights and step children Richard
Kelly and wife Robin, Maureen Hoffman and husband Paul, Karen Kelly and Christine Sussman
and husband Scott. He also leaves many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews,
and other relatives. Danny is predeceased by his wife Carol Norton, his parents and his siblings,
Vincent, Thomas, Francis, Robert, Jerome, Joseph, Irene Connell, and Florence “Delores” Norton.
Rest well, your long journey is complete and your love lives on.
