On June 22, 1992, Tasha Monique Goodwin and Ian Neal Gumbs gave birth to their son, Darius Neal Gumbs in Brooklyn, New York at Kings County Hospital. Throughout his life, Darius was known to be a good person to anyone and everyone who met him. He was a easy going, down to earth, loving, caring, helpful, humble, respectful, fun, comical, friendly person but at the same time someone who could be reasonable, level headed, spiritual, and mature. He grew up to love art, dancing, watching and talking about basketball.
After High School, Darius attended the Art Institute where he would graduate with an Associates Degree. Some time after graduation, he started his career in education at the New York City Board of Education for some years then decided to become a teacher at New Dawn Charter School to help challenging teenagers. It wasn’t until he moved to New Jersey where he found his new career in the Metro Fire Safety and the United States Post Office.
Darius attended the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses and loved the idea of serving Jehovah, so he studied with his ‘Papa’ and dedicated his life on February 20th, 2016. He stayed faithful in Jehovah’s service until the end of his time. Darius met the love of his life Brieyana in 2019, but it wasn’t until 2020 that the two became inseparable. They decided to unite in marriage on April 14, 2022 and the love that they share is still unconditional and widely known to everyone.
Darius Neal Gumbs departed life at his home in Bayonne, New Jersey on June 21, 2024. Preceding him in death is his Grandfather ‘Papa’ Willie Goodwin Jr. who he admired so much. Darius leaves to cherish his memories by his Wife Brieyana Gumbs, Mother Tasha Goodwin, Father Ian Gumbs, Siblings: Hannah King and Tatum Gumbs, Second Mother Stacy Gumbs, Mother in Law Monique Cooper, Father in Law Craig Taylor, Second Mother in Law Dana Galbreath-Taylor, Second Father in Law Peru Cooper, Newly Brother in Law Justin King, Stepsister Shamiqua Williams, Stepbrother Emory Butler, Stepbrother Zahir Coleman, Sister in Law Adriyana Beckford, Newly Brother in Law Jorgion Beckford, Brother in Law Kendall Galbreath, Grandmothers: Selena Goodwin and Ulrica Moore, Uncles: Prentice Goodwin, Marvin Gumbs, Duane Gumbs, Alex Gumbs, Kelley Gumbs, Andrew Gumbs, Michael Gumbs, Aunts: Kim Goodwin and Jozette Gumbs. Darius also leaves to cherish his memories by his Nephews, Nieces, extended Grandparents, Uncles, Aunts, Cousins, and an extremely large host of Friends.
Viewing and funeral talk is July 4, 2024 from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witness, 1260-62 Bergen Street, Brooklyn NY 11213. Cremation will be private.
