Devindra "Baby" Jaikaran, born on December 6, 1963, in Berbice (Village 71), Guyana to Royal and Houtri Baldeo, passed away peacefully on October 2, 2024, after a valiant battle with metastatic breast cancer. Baby immigrated to the United States in the late 1980s, where she forged a life marked by love, resilience, and entrepreneurial success. She was predeceased by her loving husband, Tajram, her father, Royal, and her brother, Pope.
Baby’s life was a testament to strength and courage. Widowed in 2007, she continued to run Danforth Cleaners, a testament to her and Tajram’s shared dream, while raising her cherished children, Zara (“Anna”) and Rajendra. Known for her warm smile and infectious laugh, Baby was a beacon of joy and friendliness in her community. She embraced life fully, enjoying travel, reading, gardening, and painting, and made lasting friendships wherever she went.
A true fighter, Baby bravely battled cancer three times, contributing to genetic research at Memorial Sloan Kettering (MSK) in hopes of helping others. Her spirit and determination left her medical team in awe.
Baby leaves behind a legacy of love and inspiration that will live on in her children, Zara (and son-in-law Ali) and Rajendra; her loving mother, Betty; siblings Buddy, Ione, Ann, and Arlene; and many nieces and nephews.
