Donald Vincent Ortmann

Donald Vincent Ortmann, 90, a lifelong resident of Jersey City, NJ, passed away peacefully at home on July 29, 2025, surrounded by the love of his family.

Born on March 6, 1935, to Vincent Ortmann and Marie Ortmann (née Reilly), Donald was proud to have lived his entire life in the city that shaped him. His deep roots in Jersey City were a source of pride, and he was known by many as a devoted family man, a loyal friend, and a man of unwavering faith.

Donald was the beloved husband of Maria Ortmann, with whom he shared a lifetime of love, partnership, and devotion. Together they built a strong, close-knit family and a home filled with warmth. He was the cherished father of Linda Ortmann, Yvette Ortmann, David Ortmann, and Douglas Ortmann. He was predeceased by his beloved son, Vincent Ortmann, whose memory remained ever present in Donald’s heart.

A loving grandfather, Donald was immensely proud of his grandchildren: Vincent Jr., Michael, Steven, and Kayla. He took great joy in watching them grow and thrive, offering guidance, support, and love at every step.

He was the dear brother of Sister Barbara Ortmann and Patricia Rakausaas, and was predeceased by his brother David Ortmann and his sister Marie “Mickey” Ortmann.

Donald’s life was marked by steadfast faith. A devoted parishioner of St. Anne’s Church in Jersey City, he rarely missed a service and found strength, purpose, and peace through his Catholic faith. His quiet dedication and spiritual strength were an inspiration to all who knew him.

He will be remembered for his calm and steady presence, his kind and generous nature, and the profound love he had for his family. His legacy lives on in the many lives he touched with his wisdom, humility, and enduring compassion.

Family and friends are invited to honor Donald’s life at Riotto Funeral Home (For GPS, please use our parking lot address: 14 Stagg Street, Jersey City, NJ 07306) on Friday, August 1, 2025, from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM. Visitation will resume Saturday, August 2, 2025, from 9:30 AM to 10:00 AM at St. Anne's Church, Jersey City. A funeral mass will begin at 10:00 AM. Entombment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, North Arlington. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Donald's name to St. Jude's Children's Hospital at www.StJude.Org/donate
