Edna Ruth Mowell, Passed away peacefully at Peace Care St. Joseph’s on May 12th, 2020 at the age of 95. Edna was a lifelong resident of Jersey City, daughter of the late Edna (nee Armstrong) and Walter Mowell.
Edna graduated from Dickinson High School and went right to work for RCA in Harrison, NJ working as a Television Glass Tube Maker, forming the stems on the base of the tubes. She produced over 600 tubes an hour and was paid at the rate of 25 cents per hour when she started in 1942. She remained with the company for 34 years until they closed in 1976. While she worked at RCA, she worked in temperatures of over 100 degrees and throughout her life, outside of work, was always cold. When she entered a room, she was always heard to say, “where’s the heat!”.
She was an active member of the the North Street Seniors, St. Anne’s Seniors, and The Friends of Muhlenberg Gardens. When her health changed, she entered Peace Care St. Joseph’s, where she was cared for with love, respect, and compassion for the remaining last 4 years of her life. She is survived by a friend Ken Wessler.
