Eileen Cappelletti Obituary

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Eileen Cappelletti, who departed this life on Thursday, July 10, 2025 in her hometown of Jersey City at the age of 85.

Born on April 9, 1940 to the late, Angie and Sam Mercante in Jersey City, Eileen dedicated her life to her family, her community, and to her work. She spent many years as a para professional with the Jersey City Board of Education, where she touched the lives of countless students and colleagues with her warmth, patience, and compassion.

Eileen was the heart of her family and cherished the time she spent surrounded by those she loved. Eileen was married to the love of her life, Ronald Cappelletti for 57 years until his passing in 2018. Their enduring bond and devotion to each other served as a beautiful example of love and partnership. She is survived by her three devoted daughters, Maria Portas, Lisa Silcox and husband John Silcox and Angela Ciraco and husband Nick Ciraco, seven beloved grandchildren, Alyssa and husband Brandon, Lauren and husband Kyle, Matt, Chris, Nicholas, Andrew and Gabriella and a new great-grandson and a great granddaughter on the way. She is also survived by her treasured brother John and his family. Her family brought her endless joy. Her presence at family gatherings, her laughter, and her quiet strength will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

She also treasured the lifelong friendships she formed growing up in Jersey City. Those early bonds remained strong throughout her life and were a constant source of love, laughter, and support. In her later years, she found a second family in her College Towers friends, whose companionship brought her deep happiness and comfort.

A woman of deep and abiding faith, Eileen was a longtime and devoted member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church. She served as a Eucharistic Minister, sharing her love for the Church and for others through her service. Her spiritual strength, compassion, and quiet leadership were a guiding light to many.

Eileen will be remembered for her kindness, her unwavering love for her family, and her ability to make everyone feel welcome and cared for.
