Elisea Uyvico Fernandez, 91, of Jersey City, formerly of Culaba, Leyte, Philippines, passed away peacefully on June 18, 2025, at Jersey City Medical Center.
Born in Culaba, Leyte, Elisea was the daughter of the late Teofilo and Remedios Uyvico. She spent most of her life in the Philippines before immigrating to the United States in 1989. A woman of faith, strength, and boundless compassion, Elisea devoted her life to service, humility, and love.
Elisea began her career as a certified midwife, proudly assisting in the delivery of countless newborns with care and expertise. After many dedicated years in midwifery, she went on to work at the Philippine Post Office, where she was respected for her diligence, reliability, and strong work ethic.
Her Catholic faith was the foundation of her life. Elisea prayed the rosary faithfully—often three full rosaries each day—and offered her prayers selflessly for family, friends, and strangers alike. Her life was marked by humility, kindness, and unwavering generosity. With a warm smile and a heart full of grace, she brought peace and light to everyone she encountered.
She is survived by her beloved husband, Cyrus Fernandez; her children: Jeana and her husband Arsenio, Catherine and her husband Rodolfo, Nerissa Kurasako and her husband Kawamura, Angela and her husband Roberto, and Cyrus Jr. and his wife Catherine. She is also survived by daughters-in-law Melissa and Olive.
Elisea was the cherished grandmother of Clena (Stuart), Alaine (Salama), Jeremy (Aj), Niro (Alice), Kaori, Kisses, Tadamichi, Lauren Anne, Roan, Cyrine (Devon), Cyrus III, Gino (Faye), Roy (Rhee), Grace, Risa, Miguel, and Bea; and the proud great-grandmother of Gian, Liana, Gio, Gray, Rui, Gary, Pi Hendrix, Levi, and Akio.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her son, Grancis, and her siblings Amanda, Antonio, Santiago, Francisco, and Remedios.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, June 22, 2025, from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Riotto Funeral Home (for GPS, please use the parking lot address: 14 Stagg Street, Jersey City, NJ 07306). Following services in New Jersey, Elisea will be transported to the Philippines for burial at Manila Memorial Park Cemetery in Paranaque City, with arrangements entrusted to La Funeraria Paz.
The Fernandez family extends heartfelt thanks to all who have shown their love, prayers, and support during this time.
“Nanay, you have lived an exemplary life. As the Blessed Mother promises: Anyone who regularly prays the rosary and earnestly tries to live according to God’s will shall be spiritually prepared when their time of death comes. May the light of God shine upon you, and may you receive your eternal reward in heaven.”
