Elizabeth "Betty" Feltz Verdiano, 89, of Brick NJ, passed away at home surrounded by her loving family on September 8, 2024. She was born in Jersey City on February 4, 1935, and was raised in the Marion section. Betty was the loving daughter of the late Joseph and Elizabeth Feltz and the sister of Kathleen (Birger) Sundsback and the late Helen (Gabriel) Santoro.
She was the devoted mother of Elizabeth (George) Sowinski, Laura (John) Burke, Connie (James) Bernardo, Sara (Andrew) Fourounjian and Joseph (Miriam) Castrovinci and raised her children on her own until marrying the late Paul Verdiano later in life. She was affectionately known as Granny, Gran, Great-Gran, and GG by her adored 12 grandchildren, and 15 great grandchildren.
Betty worked many years at Morgan Guarantee Trust Company in NYC. After early retirement, she attended Jersey City Medical Center school of nursing where she graduated and started a new career, fulfilling her lifelong dream of becoming a nurse.
After retiring from nursing, Betty and Paul became snowbirds in Ormond Beach, FL until 2015 when they permanently settled in Brick to be closer to family.
Her outlook on life, straightforward approach to everything, mental and physical toughness, caring and sharing nature, and her ability to have fun made a difference in so many lives. Aside from spending time with her family, she enjoyed trips to Atlantic City, traveling the world, World War II movies, driving her van back-and-forth to Florida, and smoking her favorite cigarettes. Betty could always be found with her video camera in hand to capture family memories which is how she earned the nickname “CBS Betty.”
