Ellen Rogan-Miller

Ellen M. Rogan-Miller, age 90, of Jersey City, passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by her love ones on Tuesday, February 16, 2021 after a short battle with cancer.

Ellen, also known as “Aunt Ellen” and “Sister Ellen,” was born in Jersey City on October 13, 1930 to Mary Walsh Rogan and John Joseph Rogan, and was a lifelong Jersey City resident.  Ellen loved the Church as a child, and after graduating from St. Joseph’s Grammar School, she went to Convent School to dedicate herself to the Lord and became a Nun. She later graduated with a B.S. from Elizabeth College, a M.S in Reading from New Jersey City University, and a M.S in English as a Second Language from Fairleigh Dickinson. After 30 years of dedication, Ellen felt that there was more to learn, love, and to give of herself.  She fell in love and married Walter Richard (Pop) Miller on July 1, 1983. She was a lifelong educator in both the Catholic and Public School systems.  Her last position was working with Title 1 at the Jersey City Board of Education. She was a devout parishioner of St. Mary’s Church and considered them her second family. She was an avid reader, and spent many days at the Jersey City Public Library, where she also made great friends.  She always had a smile on her face and was loved by everyone who met her. She lived for 42 years at the Villa Borinquen Apartments in downtown Jersey City, and was loved by all of her neighbors and employees.  Her death has created a void in many hearts.

Ellen is predeceased by the love of her life, Walter Richard Miller; and her parents, Mary and John Rogan. She is the loving sister of Ann Fogler of Brick, NJ and the late John, Mary, Joseph, Thomas, and Michael.  She leaves behind, and will be greatly missed by, many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.

Visitation is Friday, February 19, 2021 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Riotto Funeral Home & Cremation Company, 3205 John F. Kennedy Blvd., Jersey City. Arlington.
