In Loving Memory of Ely P. Ramos
March 03, 1930 ~ July 22, 2025
Ely P. Ramos, 95, of Lakewood, NJ passed away on Tuesday, July 22, 2025.
With heavy hearts and gratitude for a life well lived, we share the passing of Ely (Eleuterio) P. Ramos, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, who left this world peacefully at home surrounded by his family and close friends on July 22, 2025, at the age of 95.
Born in Morong Rizal, Philippines, Ely was the cherished son of Anastasia and Vicente Ramos. The youngest of 10 children, Ely was the first in his family to attend college after earning a full scholarship for track. He pursued his education at the University of the East in Manila, where he developed a deep love for learning.
Ely began his professional career as a teacher at San Miguel High School in Bulacan, where he taught economics and retail merchandising. It was there that he met the love of his life, Nora Padilla, a fellow teacher. The two shared a devoted marriage of 66 years and together raised two children, Eleanor and Thomas.
In 1969, Ely immigrated to the United States with his young family, seeking new opportunities. He settled in Jersey City, NJ where he resided for 25 years and later relocated to Old Bridge, NJ, to continue living close to his daughter and grandchildren.
Ely worked as a bookkeeper for Slavin & Sons and later for Visiting Homemakers of Hudson County until his retirement in 1995.
Outside of work, Ely had a profound love for gardening. His home was known for its beautifully landscaped yard and vibrant floral displays, and Ely was known by neighbors for his dedication to cultivating these gardens. He was also a gifted artist, who enjoyed painting landscapes and sketching portraits of his grandchildren. Upon his retirement, he and Nora moved to Lakewood, NJ where he found another passion for collecting and curating unique treasures which he shared over the years through his booth at the Antique Pavilion in Point Pleasant.
Ely’s kindness, quiet strength, and warm, infectious smile left an indelible mark on all who knew him. His legacy of love, hard work, and creativity lives on through his family and the many lives he touched. He will be deeply missed, forever loved, and always remembered.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Nora Ramos; his daughter, Eleanor (Adalberto) Chiconelli; his daughter-in-law, Deirdre Carberry Ramos; his grandchildren, Kristen (Daniel) Doyle, Kimberly (Josh) Plattner, and Allen Chiconelli; his great-grandchildren, Dylan, Charlotte, and Sienna Doyle, and Rio and Atlas Plattner; as well as several nieces and nephews, all of whom cherished him.
Ely is predeceased by his parents and his siblings, Damaso, Francisco, Demetria Reyes, Marcela, Irene Francisco, Agapita, Melchora Fernando, Filemon, and Teofila Yacat, as well as his beloved son, Thomas Ramos.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that you honor Ely’s memory by donating to the American Society of Hematology or perhaps by planting something beautiful in your garden, as he so often did in his.
