Ethel Schwartz
November 22, 1945 ~ August 12, 2025
Ethel Schwartz, a beloved mother, grandmother, and pioneer in law enforcement, passed away surrounded by her loving family on Tuesday, August 12, 2025. Born on November 22, 1945, to the late James and Ethel Clemens, she was a lifelong resident of Jersey City, where she touched countless lives.
Ethel proudly served her community as one of the first female police officers with the Jersey City Police Department, later earning the rank of detective. Her dedication, courage, and trailblazing spirit inspired many who followed in her footsteps.
Family was the heart of Ethel’s world. She is survived by her son Robert Schwartz and his wife Janice, her daughter Melissa Drennan and her spouse Timmy, and her cherished grandchildren Joseph Simeone and Ava Schwartz. She also leaves behind her adopted son, Morris “Moe”; her dear aunt, Marguerite “Sugar”; and her adored pets Roxie, Bella, Miss Kitty, and Damien.
Known by many simply as “Mom,” Ethel’s kindness, humor, and love of animals were central to her life. She was a source of comfort and guidance to all who knew her. The family wishes to express their heartfelt thanks to her devoted caregivers, Margaret, Ivonne, and Wendy, for their compassion and support.
