Frances Ann John, 1947-2021
Frances Ann John, age 74, passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 28, 2021, with her family by her side at her home in Jersey City, NJ.
She was born January 1947 in San Antonio, Texas to David and Alice (Neal) Mumme.
She lived a bold, energetic life, moving to NYC in the early 70s to study film making. She loved the years she was involved with the Black Maria Film Festival and the New Jersey Young Filmmakers. She was an avid reader and a fierce advocate of public education. She showered her children and grandchildren with love and enjoyed being with them immensely; sleepovers with "Gramma and Grandpa" were a favorite for all the grandchildren. In her 50s she decided to take her love of reading and education professional: she went back to college at NJCU to finish her BA in Early Childhood Education. She taught until the progression of Parkinson's Disease caused her to retire.
She is survived by her husband, James; her brothers, David and Joseph; her 5 children and their spouses, Fred and Susan, Chandra and Michael, Catherine, Deon and Naquasha, and Jeremy; 11 grandchildren, and 3 great-grandchildren.
She is predeceased by her parents, David and Alice.
At her request, no service will be held. Because of Frances' great love for children and plants, the family asks that expressions of sympathy be either a donation to Child Find of America or a plant.
