Gennaro Meffe, 78 of Jersey City, entered into eternal life on Friday, April 2, 2021 at his home. Born in Torella del Sannio, Italy to the late Vitale & Stella (nee: Izzi), he came to the US at the age of 19. On July 10, 1960 he married his loving wife in Italy and in 1962 joined her in Jersey City where they planted their roots and began to raise a family.
Gennaro was dedicated to his family and Holy Rosary Church, downtown Jersey City. When he was not spending quality time with his family he was tirelessly working to help his Church. He served many years as a member of the Holy Name Society, a Eucharistic Minister and Lector. More recently he is known as the “King of the Zeppoli” – he, his family and dear friends are the work crew behind the Zeppoli stand at Holy Rosary’s – La Festa Italiana. A loving sacrifice in the brutal heat of the summer to help raise money for the church.
He is the beloved husband of Giuseppina (nee: D’Alessandro), cherished father of Stella & Guido Monteleone, Vitale & Lisa Meffe & Rosa Anna & Arthur Maglio, loving grandfather of Christina & G. Michael Monteleone, Dana & Matthew Meffe, Darren, Marc & Chynna Maglio and great-granddaughter, Adeline.
He also survived by his brother Armando Meffe in Italy and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Visitation will be held on Monday, April 5, 2021 from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Riotto Funeral Home & Cremation Co., 3205 Kennedy Blvd, Jersey City. (for GPS use 14 Stagg Street).
Relatives and Friends are invited to attend the funeral on Tuesday, April 6th beginning at 8:45am at the Funeral Home followed by a Funeral Mass at Holy Rosary Church, 344 Sixth Street, Jersey City at 10:00 a.m. Mausoleum entombment will follow at Fairview Mausoleum, Fairview.
