Grace Cuttingham Obituary

Grace Cuttingham (nee Skinner) died peacefully in Atlas Healthcare, Maywood, N.J. on June 13th at 96 years of age. Grace was a lifelong resident of Jersey City.  She was a faithful parishioner of St. Paul of the Cross Parish.

Grace is survived by her daughters, Janice; Nancy and her husband, Marty Schade and her son, John and his wife, Diana and her grandchildren, Matthew Schade, his wife Amanda; Jessica Marsico, her husband, Mike; Alyssa Cuttingham and her partner, Mike Crowe; John Cuttingham and his fiancé Alex Ricardo; and her greatgrandchildren, Emma Schade and Michael Marsico.

Grace was predeceased by her husband, Stanton; her grandson, Luke Schade and her son-in-law, Al Petit.  She was also predeceased by her parents, Helen and James Skinner and her sisters, Sally Canzano (Thomas) Helen O’Brien (Robert); Rose Murphy (Donald) and her brothers, Eugene (Helen), James (Delores), Raymond and her sister-in-law’s, Carol Skinner and Carol Graziosi Skinner. Grace is survived by her brother, Robert (Luke) Skinner, sisters-in-law Joyce and Patti Skinner and many nieces and nephews.

As a child, Grace was a student of St. Nicholas School and she received her Sacraments at St. Nicholas Church, including her wedding to the love of her life, Stan.  She graduated from Holy Family High School in Union City. After her marriage, she became a parishioner of St. Paul of the Cross where her three children attended school and made their Sacraments.

In the early 1990’s, after a thirty-five-year career, Grace retired from Mechanics Finance Company on Newark Avenue, Jersey City.

Grace had two joys in her life. As a faithful Catholic, her faith and her devotion to the Blessed Mother and her dedication to the St. Jude Novena gave her great strength. Grace’s faith provided her solace when she lost her devoted husband, Stan in November of 1989.  In her later life, she was dedicated to watching the daily Mass and saying the daily Rosary on EWTN.

The second joy of Grace’s life was her family starting with her parents, Helen & Jim and her seven siblings.   She thoroughly enjoyed all of the family occasions that brought them together.  After her marriage, her life with Stan and her children were a priority.  Her extended family grew with brother-in-law’s and sister-in-law’s and nieces and nephews.  As her extended family grew, there were more occasions to create lasting memories.

As Grace’s children (Janice, Nancy and John) married, she loved their spouses (Al, Marty and Diana and became an important part of her grandchildren (Matt, Luke, Jessica, Alyssa and John) lives.  She cherished the time spent with them and their conversations.

Grace had a strong connection to the JCFD (Jersey City Fire Department) with several family members servicing: deceased Battalion Chief Bob O’Brien, retired Firefighter Luke Skinner, retired Firefighter Marty Schade, and retired Captain John Cuttingham. When they were on duty, she was their prayer warrior praying for their safety.
