Graciela Gonzalez de Arias

Graciela Gonzalez de Arias entered eternal rest on August 17th, 2026 at the age of 88. Graciela was born in Sogamoso, Boyacá, Colombia on April 23, 1938 to Oliverio González and María Carmen Tibocha.

 After marrying her husband of 59 years, Miguel Arias, Graciela moved to the U.S for a better life working as a caretaker for children around the Washington Heights neighborhood of NYC. As soon as she had her kids, the family moved back to Colombia in which they lived for 7 years until immigrating back to the U.S in 1978. One of the things that kept Graciela on the go was through her faith. Graciela’s devotion to God was full throttle, and if free on the weekends or during the week she would volunteer her time working as a member of the Legion of Mary that would stick with her for the rest of her life. Graciela was also a family woman as well, every time the family would come home from work or school, she would always provide the nourishment they needed to go on in life. For countless holidays and special occasions, Graciela was the life of the party, including leading the annual las posadas novena which is the novena that leads to the preparation for the birth of Jesus Christ. When her Grandson Anthony came along, she would frequently collaborate with Miguel in taking care of him while his mother was out working during the day.

Graciela is predeceased by her husband Miguel, and survived by her kids Ercilia, Jerman, Jose and her Grandson Anthony. We will miss her terribly.

Visitation is on Friday, August 21, 2026 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at RIOTTO FUNERAL HOME & Cremation Company, 3205 John F. Kennedy Blvd., Jersey City, NJ 07306 (For GPS Navigation, it is best to use our parking lot entrance address: 14 Stagg St., Jersey City). Funeral services are Saturday, August 22, 2026, 9:00 a.m. at Funeral Home. Followed by a 10:00 a.m. mass at St. Aloysius Church, 691 West Side Ave, Jersey City, NJ 07304. Interment at Bayview Cemetery, 321 Garfield Ave, Jersey City, NJ 07305.

Graciela González de Arias entro en el descanso eterno el 17 de Agosto de 2026, a la edad de 88 años. Graciela nació en Sogamoso, Boyacá, Colombia, el 23 de Abril de 1938, hija de Oliverio González y María Carmen Tibocha.

Tras casarse con Miguel Arias, su esposo durante 59 años, Graciela se mudó a los Estados Unidos en busca de una vida mejor, trabajando en el cuidado de niños en el vecindario de Washington Heights, en Nueva York. Poco después de tener a sus hijos, la familia regresó a Colombia, donde residió durante siete años antes de volver a emigrar a los Estados Unidos en 1978. Su fe fue un motor fundamental en su vida; Graciela vivía su devoción a Dios con gran fervor y dedicaba su tiempo libre —ya fuera entre semana o los fines de semana— a colaborar como miembro de la Legión de María, compromiso que mantuvo durante el resto de su vida. Graciela también fue una mujer profundamente dedicada a su familia; siempre que sus seres queridos regresaban del trabajo o de la escuela, ella les brindaba el alimento necesario para seguir adelante. En innumerables festividades y ocasiones especiales, Graciela era el alma de la celebración; incluso dirigía la novena anual de "Las Posadas", la cual prepara el camino para la Navidad y el nacimiento de Jesucristo. Cuando nació su nieto Anthony, colaboraba frecuentemente con Miguel en su cuidado mientras la madre del niño trabajaba durante el día.

A Graciela le precedió en la muerte su esposo Miguel, y le sobreviven sus hijos Ercilia, Jermán y José, así como su nieto Anthony. La extrañaremos profundamente.

El velatorio se llevará a cabo el Viernes 21 de Agosto de 2026, de 4:00 p. m. a 8:00 p. m., en RIOTTO FUNERAL HOME & Cremation Company, ubicado en 3205 John F. Kennedy Blvd., Jersey City, NJ 07306 (para la navegación por GPS, se recomienda utilizar la dirección de la entrada a nuestro estacionamiento: 14 Stagg St., Jersey City). Los servicios funerarios será el sábado 22 de Agosto de 2026 a las 9:00 a. m. en la funeraria. A continuación, se celebrará una misa a las 10:00 a. m. en la iglesia St. Aloysius, ubicada en 691 West Side Ave, Jersey City, NJ 07304. El sepelio tendrá lugar en el cementerio Bayview, situado en 321 Garfield Ave, Jersey City, NJ 07305.
