With hearts full of love and gratitude, the family of Ida Lou Butler announces her peaceful passing on Thursday, November 6, 2025. Born on March 16, 1936 in Ehrhardt, South Carolina, Ida lived a long, faith-filled life rooted in love, family, and service to others.
Affectionately known as Nana, GG and Aunt Ahloo, she was the devoted daughter of Louis Butler and Bernice Hill, and a beloved sister to Louetta Williams. For more than three decades, Ida dedicated her career to caring for others as an Operating Room Technician, embodying compassion and excellence in all that she did.
A woman of deep faith, Ida found joy and purpose in her church community, where she was a devoted servant and worshipper. She loved gospel music, crosswords, and a good game show, but above all, she loved her family. Known as the loving matriarch of her family, she sowed togetherness among generations. She was a caretaker not only to her grandchildren but to her great-grandchildren, whom she was instrumental in raising.
Ida’s independent and fiery spirit was matched only by her devotion to the Lord. Her favorite moments were spent in praise and worship, and she leaves behind a legacy of love, strength, and unity that will continue to guide her family for generations to come.
She is survived by her loving children: Donald Danner and his wife Latanya, Darnell Brant, Delphine Butler, Leona Perez and her husband Alfred, and Mark Butler. Her memory will also be cherished by her many grandchildren: Lawrence Butler, Keisha Butler, Sonya Spruill, Sekema Newton, Marshall Butler, John Degroat, Kimberly Brant, Darnell Brant Jr., Markeda Kraus and her husband Gregory, Ejypt Perez, Jordan Perez, Anthony Butler, Mark Butler, Corwin Butler Jr., Brianna Perez, Isaiah Butler, Aaliyah Butler, Heather Koth Brooks Danner, Katelyn Danner, and Carter Perkins. She was also blessed with great-grandchildren: Adaliyah Butler, Ayana Butler, Shyasia Arzue and husband Amenigi, Joshua Ferguson, Darius Brant, Katelynn Thomas, Hailey Byrd, Shamell Brant, Carter John Degroat, Mikhayla Butler, Carmelo Butler, Sarai Butler, and Lelia Butler, and a great-great-grandchild, Ahauni Arzu.
She is reunited in eternal peace with her beloved children Laverne Rose Powell, Cheryl Anne Butler, Corwin Randall Butler, and Albert Gerard Butler; her parents, Louis Butler and Bernice Hill; and her brother-in-law, Dallas Williams Sr. Ida will be deeply missed by a host of nieces, nephews, and friends who were touched by her kindness, faith, and strength.
