Jaimindri “Barbara” Deonarain, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and cherished friend, passed away peacefully on December 2, 2025, at the age of eighty four. Her life was a shining example of devotion, generosity, and love. She was a gentle soul whose kindness and compassion touched every person who had the blessing of knowing her.
Barbara was born on July 10, 1941, in Port Mourant, Guyana, where she was raised in a close and caring community that helped shape her warm spirit. It was also where she met her devoted husband, Jagdat Deonarain, with whom she shared a lifetime of partnership, respect, and affection. Together, they created a beautiful and close family filled with unity and love.
She was the treasured mother of Barbara Alfred and her husband Adrian, and Rajendra Deonarain and his wife Nisa. Her greatest joys in life were her grandchildren, Julian, Ryan, and Ethan, along with her beloved great grandchildren, Alexander and Kamila. Each of them brought her tremendous pride, happiness, and laughter. Her love for her family was boundless, and she cared for them with patience, tenderness, and strength.
Barbara dedicated more than twenty years as a volunteer at Harborview Nursing Home. She offered comfort, companionship, and kindness to the residents there, many of whom came to depend on her caring presence. She also found joy in cooking and serving others. Sharing meals was her way of showing love, and she welcomed everyone with open arms and a warm heart.
Her family describes her as loving, selfless, and determined. She had a gentle resilience that guided her through life and inspired those around her.
Services will be held on Friday, December 5, 2025, from five o’clock in the evening to nine o’clock in the evening at Riotto Funeral Home. For GPS, please use the parking lot address at 14 Stagg Street in Jersey City. A funeral mass will take place on Saturday, December 6, 2025, at eleven o’clock in the morning at Saint Aloysius Church in Jersey City. Interment will follow at Holy Name Cemetery, also in Jersey City.
In place of flowers, the family kindly asks that donations be made in Barbara’s name to Harborview Nursing Home.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to her caregivers, Shanta and Lillawatie, as well as the many others who cared for her over the years. They also wish to thank the dedicated members of the Bayada healthcare agency for their support and compassion.
Barbara’s legacy lives on in the love she gave, the lives she touched, and the countless acts of kindness she offered so freely. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
