James Gregory Lockheed
September 20, 1965 – February 23, 2026
James Gregory Lockheed, lovingly known as Jim or Jimmy, passed away after a courageous battle with illness. Born on September 20, 1965 at Christ Hospital, James was a lifelong Jersey City resident whose strength, loyalty, and work ethic defined his life.
He was the beloved son of the late James Roger Lockheed and Florence Louise Lockheed. He was predeceased by his father and his brother-in-law, Christopher Herring.
James is survived by his devoted daughter, Ashley Marie Lockheed, whom he loved beyond measure. He also leaves behind his caring sister, Shelley Herring; his niece, Amanda Herring; his uncle, Roy Lockheed and his wife Liz; his former wife, Michele Dispoto; and many cousins, too many to mention by name, all of whom will cherish his memory.
Jim grew up in Jersey City and married Michele Dispoto in 1992. The couple made their home in Sewaren, New Jersey until 2007, after which he returned to Jersey City.
For more than forty years, James faithfully served the County of Hudson, beginning his career in the Family Court and later working in the Prosecutor’s Office. His dedication and tireless work ethic were unmatched. At the onset of his illness in June 2025, he had accumulated nearly 400 unused sick days, a testament to his commitment and reliability. He was a worker in the truest sense of the word.
He was a diehard Dallas Cowboys fan, proudly holding that loyalty despite growing up in a New York Giants household. He loved heavy metal music, his truck, and anything related to cars. If someone had a question about a vehicle, Jim was the one to ask. He took pride in what he knew and was always willing to share it.
Above all, Jim was a fighter from the day he was born until the day he passed. He never complained, never felt sorry for himself, and faced life with grit and determination. He loved his daughter deeply and had big dreams for the future, including retiring and moving to Texas, proudly cheering on his Cowboys. He could be stubborn and hardheaded when he believed in something, but that same strength also meant he saw good in people that others sometimes overlooked.
