Janet Trotter

Janet Trotter, 78, of Warrington, PA, died peacefully in her sleep on June 16, 2024.

Janet was born in Jersey City, NJ, in 1946 to Patrick and Rachel DeTuro. She attended St. Michael’s High School and later earned a bachelor’s degree in biology from Jersey City State College. She resided in Jersey City for 65 years, where she independently raised her four children and her beloved German Shepard, Brandon. She held the position of Senior Associate Scientist at Lockheed Martin for over 20 years and completed her career as a compassionate case worker at the Hudson County Department of Family Services in Jersey City. 

Janet will always be remembered for her love of writing. She authored three children’s stories following the adventures of Andy McKnight and his dog Ruffles, which she would traditionally read to her grandchildren at Christmas time. Janet was the family photographer, always taking photos and creating albums of her children’s and grandchildren’s special events. She also enjoyed reading and watching old movies.

Janet was preceded in death by her loving parents, Patrick and Rachel DeTuro and her brother Patrick DeTuro. She is survived by her sister, Karen Rifai (Ali), her children Patricia Gibney (Michael), Rachel Liotta, Kim Farwell (Christopher) and Kevin Trotter (Patricia). She is also survived by her grandchildren Johnna Saccoccio (Dylan), Amanda Farwell, Michael Gibney, Justin Farwell, Brielle Liotta, Colby Cannone (David), Cali Crank (William), Jake Trotter, Joseph Liotta, Olivia Farwell and Matthew Gibney, great-grandchild Colette Saccoccio, and nieces and nephew Melissa Rifai (Nicholas), Stephanie Rifai and Patrick DeTuro.

Visitation is Thursday, June 20, 2024 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Riotto Funeral Home & Cremation Company, 3205 Kennedy Blvd., Jersey City, NJ. (For GPS navigation, it is best to use our parking lot address: 14 Stagg Street).  Funeral is Friday, June 21, 2024 from 9:00 AM to 9:30 AM at the funeral home.  Funeral mass is at 10:00 AM at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, 99 Broadway, Jersey City.  Interment will follow at Holy Name Cemetery, 823 West Side Ave. Jersey City.
