Jerry Owen Crow, age 83, of Jersey City; formerly of Danville, Illinois, entered into eternal rest surrounded by his loving wife and friends on Friday, May 24, 2024. Jerry loved watching sports, especially football and baseball. Even in his youth, he also enjoyed playing golf. He also was fond of reading, traveling around the world, riding around on his scooter, going to the casinos, and spending time with his family.
His family would always remember him for his loving and kind hearted manner. Jerry was an excellent husband by also lending a hand doing chores around his home and for his volunteer work. He was known for his many wonderful acts by helping various groups in need. Even in the Philippines, he volunteered teaching computer skills and English to high school students and children. He also spent his time volunteering for the veterans in Fort Dix.
He was a parishioner of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, a member of the New Jersey Legionnaire’s, and was a celebrated U.S. Army Veteran. He was a highly decorated soldier having been the recipient of various medals and awards during his time serving in the military. He received special recognition in 1983 for the Army Achievement medal from the Army Commendation Medal for meritorious services as a Citizen soldier, the Service Award Certificate, and in 1993 for the First Oak Leaf Cluster award.
Jerry is beloved husband of Marietta; treasured father of Ana Karina; caring grandfather of Sue; adored son of the late, Frank and Pearl; and a cherished brother of 7 siblings. He is also survived by many loving family members and friends. He will be missed very deeply by his family.
Visitation is Thursday, May 30, 2024 from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM at Riotto Funeral Home & Cremation Company, 3205 Kennedy Blvd. Jersey City. (For GPS navigation, it is best to use our parking lot address: 14 Stagg Street). Funeral is Friday, May 31, 2024 from 9:00 AM to 9:30 AM at the funeral home. Funeral mass will be at 10:00 AM at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, 99 Broadway, Jersey City. Entombment will follow at Holy Name Cemetery, 823 West Side Ave. In lieu of flowers, charitable donations can be made to Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church (https://olmcjc.com/donating/).
