Joanne Calderone

Joanne Calderone (Chwalk), a Special Education teacher and life-long resident of Jersey City, passed away on October 14, 2021 at age 67. 

Joanne was born in Jersey City on July 13, 1954 to Walter and Beatrice Chwalk.  She graduated from Dickinson High School and Jersey City State College (now New Jersey City University) and has had a successful career as a Special Education teacher since.  Joanne married her longtime friend and love, Michael, on December 21, 1984. Their son, Michael, was born the next year.

Joanne is survived by her husband, Michael; her son, Michael Taras; her sister, Carolee Trifon; her brother, Walter Chwalk; her brother-in-law, Thomas Calderone and sister-in-law, Emmy Chwalk.  She is also survived by her nieces, Judy McKeown, Ruthann Conklin, Victoria Plunkett, Amy Frezzo, Gabriella Calderone and Carly Calderone; great-nephews, Stephen Mayer, Michael Plunkett and Brett Frezzo; great nieces, Lauren McKeown, Erin McKeown, Olivia Guardino, Paige Plunkett and Jessica Plunkett.  All of whom loved her dearly and will never forget her. 

Besides spending time with her family and friends, Joanne had a passion for the beach and enjoyed hours in the sun with her toes in the sand. 

Visitation for Joanne will be on Tuesday, October 19, 2021, 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at RIOTTO FUNERAL HOME & Cremation Company, 3205 John F. Kennedy Blvd., Jersey City, NJ 07306 (For GPS Navigation it is best to use the parking lot entrance address: 14 Stagg St., Jersey City).  Cremation will follow privately.
