It is with deep sorrow and love that we announce the passing of Joel Miguel Fernandez, affectionately known to all as Joey, on May 17, 2025.

Born and raised in Jersey City, NJ, Joey was a beautiful soul who touched the lives of many. He was the beloved son of Maria Lopez and Jose Fernandez, and a devoted brother to Miguel Castro, Emilio Fernandez, Omayra Castro, Camila Fernandez, and Magdyiael Fernandez.

Joey was a person whose presence brought joy and comfort. Though he didn’t speak with words, he communicated deeply through his expressions, kindness, and loving nature. His laugh was contagious, his heart was pure, and he always understood you in his own special way.

He had a profound love for music, water, and nature. The beach was one of his favorite places, where he found peace and happiness. Joey also loved spending time outside, sharing meals, and being surrounded by family—his true source of joy. Always polite and endlessly lovable, Joey brought warmth to every moment.

Memorial Gathering will be held on Friday, May 23, 2025 from 6:00 PM – 9:00 PM at Riotto Funeral Home & Cremation Company, 3205 Kennedy Blvd. Jersey City.  (For GPS navigation, it is best to use our parking lot address: 14 Stagg Street).

Family and friends are invited to join in remembering and celebrating Joey’s life. Your presence, prayers, and shared memories will mean so much to his family during this time.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the family are kindly appreciated and will help support them in the days ahead.

Joey’s light lives on in every heart he touched. He will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever cherished.
