John Charles Brown
June 27, 1944 – May 2, 2025
John Charles Brown, a lifelong resident of Jersey City, passed away peacefully on May 2, 2025, in Plainsboro, NJ, at the age of 80.
Born on June 27, 1944, to John Brown and Esther Castro, John grew up in the heart of Jersey City, where he would spend nearly all his life. He was a man grounded in quiet strength, with a gentle nature and a deep love for his family.
John worked for many years as a Black Seal Boiler Operator with the Jersey City Public Schools, a role he approached with reliability, humility, and dedication. He was the kind of man who showed up—every day, without complaint—because it mattered to him to take care of those he loved.
Above all, John was a family man. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 37 years, Linda Brown, who passed away in 2011. Together they built a strong and loving family, one that remains deeply bonded by the example they set.
John leaves behind his children: John Brown, Harold Brown and his wife Ivelisse, Tracy Wilkins and her husband Deshawn, Ralph Brown and his wife Nicole, and Christopher Brown and his wife Michelle. He was a proud grandfather to Alex, Eric, Mark, John, Veronica, Ariana, Brianna, Hailey, Ciara, Brayden, Ainsley, Adelina, AnnMichelle, Jaxson, Bryson, Alexis, and Kaitlyn, and a great-grandfather to six great-grandchildren who brought him immense joy in his later years.
John’s personality was easygoing and kind. He enjoyed simple pleasures—spending time with his family, listening to music, and singing the classic tune “Goody Goody” with a smile. He never needed much to be content, and his calm presence made those around him feel at ease.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 6, 2025, from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Riotto Funeral Home (For GPS, use 14 Stagg Street, Jersey City, NJ 07306). The funeral will take place on Wednesday, May 7, 2025, beginning at 10:00 AM at the funeral home, followed by a Mass at 11:00 AM at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church in Jersey City. Interment will follow at East Ridgelawn Cemetery, Clifton.
John’s life was defined not by accolades, but by his steady presence, deep loyalty, and the love he gave to those closest to him. He will be missed dearly and remembered always.
