John Anthony Chiusolo, 61, of Jersey City entered into eternal rest on Monday, August 25, 2025. Born in Jersey City on December 29, 1963, John was the beloved son of the late John Lawrence and Lorraine E. (nee Ciser) Chiusolo.
A lifelong Jersey City resident, John was proud of his roots and the community he served. He dedicated many years as a Hudson County Correction Officer and Jersey City Police Officer, later working as an electrician. His Catholic education shaped his faith, and he remained a devout Catholic throughout his life.
John cherished spending time with his family, especially his children, who were his pride and joy. He was the devoted father of John Velazquez-Chiusolo who works at JCP&L and Valisa Velazquez-Chiusolo, who is currently pursuing her pre-law degree at Seton Hall University. He is also survived by his siblings, Betty Johnson (Chiusolo), John Lawrence, Larry, Joseph, Gerard, and Anthony, along with many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sisters Maria Prokopenko and Lorraine Chiusolo. John shared a close bond with his ex-wife, Valerie Velazquez-Stetz, and will be fondly remembered by his uncle Mickey and his cousins who were more like brothers, Skippy and Eric Chiusolo, as well as countless friends, especially from the Hudson County Corrections and the Jersey City Police Department.
John will be remembered for his heart of gold. He was the kind of man who would run to your side in times of need, never hesitating to give his last dollar if it could help someone. He had a gift for making people laugh with his jokes, loved Italian food, especially eating the "last meatball," always had the newspaper nearby, loved to listen to the soundtrack music of "Grease," and never missed a chance to reminisce about old Jersey City stories.
