John Mack, lovingly known to many as “Johnny Boy,” passed away on May 5, 2026, at the age of 43.
Born on October 4, 1982, John was a lifelong resident of Jersey City, a place he loved deeply and proudly called home throughout his entire life.
John was the beloved son of Theresa Mack and John Mack, and a devoted brother to Christiana Nigowski and her husband Chet. He is also survived by his loving aunt, Franny Gioia; his cherished cousins, Andrea Gioia Diaz and her husband Juan, Robert Anthony and his wife Jenna, Nicholas Ascolese, Shanya, Nathaniel, Jason, and Thomas; his beloved godchildren, Gianna, Arabella, and Dominic; and his beloved dog, Valentina Lucia, who held a very special place in his heart.
He was predeceased by his grandparents, Arthur and Rosemarie Pasqualetto, and Carmela and John Mack; his aunt and godmother, Rosanne Ascolese; and his uncle and godfather, James Pasqualetto.
John dedicated his life to service. He began his career as a corrections officer at the Hudson County Correctional Facility, later transferring to state corrections for youths in Annandale, New Jersey. He eventually fulfilled a calling that would define much of his life, becoming a Jersey City Police Officer, a role he served in with pride and dedication for 24 years. His commitment to his city and to the people within it was a reflection of the loyalty, courage, and strength that defined him.
John lived boldly and fully. He was bigger than life in every sense. He was the kind of man whose presence filled a room the moment he walked in. He was sharp, dapper, and always impeccably dressed, with a style all his own and a love for jewelry that matched his unmistakable flair. He was an improper jokester with a proper heart, the life of the party, always smiling, always laughing, and always ready with a joke that could leave everyone around him in stitches.
But beyond his larger than life personality was a man with a heart of gold. John loved deeply and gave freely. He would give the shirt off his back to someone in need. He loved his family fiercely, treasured his friends, and carried himself with a generosity and warmth that made people feel seen, protected, and cared for.
John was an avid hunter and fisherman who found joy in the outdoors. He loved to travel, loved dogs, and loved everything America. He embraced life with passion, pride, and an energy that was uniquely his own. To know John was to know loyalty, laughter, strength, and love.
His loss leaves an immeasurable void in the hearts of all who knew and loved him, but his spirit will live on in every story shared, every laugh remembered, and every life he touched along the way.
