John Tango passed away at the age of 90 on January 27, 2021. He will be sorely missed by his sisters Ida Ceraolo and Dorothy Scalabrini, and sister-in-law Frances Tango. Born on December 13, 1930 to Philomena and Pasquale Tango, he was predeceased by his mother and father, and siblings Alfonso, Frances, Antoinette, Frank, Lillian, and James, and three brothers-in-law, Nicholas Serra, John Patzan, and Robert Scalabrini.
He was the beloved uncle to 14 nieces and nephews, including their spouses, Robert Serra (Patricia), Patricia Serra (John Heslin), Deborah Tango (Cecil Hock), Anne Ceraolo (Terry Sullivan), Robert Scalabrini (Rose), Thomas Scalabrini (Patty), Joseph Ceraolo (Sue), Jamie Tango (Kip), Linda Scalabrini, Cheryl Scalabrini (Steve Crocitto), Diane Scalabrini (Corrado Mancini), John Patzan (Desiree), Michelle Patzan, and Richard Scalabrini (Christine). John was also the loving great as well as great great uncle to many nieces and nephews. John also leaves behind his friend, Willie, who was like another brother to him. Willie was often there helping John tend his garden and checked in on John, whether he was in Jersey City, rehab, or the hospital.
John served honorably in the United States Air Force. John retired from the United States Post Office and continued to enjoy his many family gatherings for his remaining years. John never failed to send birthday greetings, on time, and Christmas cards to each and every single one in his large family. He lived almost all of his 90 years in the house where he was born. His memories and roots were deeply planted in his beloved home in Jersey City.
He was a devout parishioner of St. Josephs’ Roman Catholic Church in Jersey City and served as an usher faithfully at the 12:00 Mass every Sunday until his illness.
John was a sweet man, with never a complaint, who just loved his family and friends completely. He will be deeply missed by all those who loved him and were loved by him.
There will be a viewing and funeral Mass at St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church on Pavonia Avenue in Jersey City on Friday, February 5, 2021. The viewing will be at 10:00 am and the Mass at 11:00 am. Burial will follow in Holy Name Cemetery, Jersey City. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to St. Joseph Parish, 511 Pavonia Avenue, Jersey City, NJ 07306.
