Jose I. Hernandez, age 75, passed away peacefully on January 9, 2026, in Jersey City, New Jersey. He was born on April 17, 1950, in Camuy, Puerto Rico, and later made Jersey City his lifelong home, where he built a life centered on family, hard work, and community.
Raised in Jersey City, Jose spent most of his life there and was deeply rooted in the community. He dedicated many years of service as a Senior Enforcement Officer with the Hudson County Improvement Authority, where he was respected for his reliability, integrity, and strong sense of responsibility.
Jose was known for his cheerful spirit and warm sense of humor. Always smiling and quick with a joke, he loved making others laugh and bringing joy to those around him. Generous by nature and always willing to help, he was someone people could count on. His happiness was genuine and reflected in the kindness he showed to everyone he met.
Outside of work, Jose found happiness in life’s simple pleasures. He enjoyed cooking, planting fruits and vegetables, and spending time with the people he loved most. Whether in the kitchen, in his garden, or surrounded by family, he was content simply being present.
Jose was predeceased by his parents, Alejandrina Fernandez and Isabel Hernandez, and by his siblings Maria Hernandez, Ramona Hernandez, Benjamin Hernandez, and Jesus Hernandez.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Ana Hernandez; his daughters, Beatrice Hernandez and Lily Hernandez; and his cherished grandsons, Alex Castoire and Joshua Torres, who were a constant source of pride and joy in his life.
