Joseph M. D’Esposito, 69, of Jersey City, passed away peacefully on October 20, 2025. Born on November 25, 1955 in Jersey City, Joseph was a lifelong resident of the Heights, where he grew up on Lincoln Street and Milton Avenue.
He was the beloved son of the late Joseph S. and Carmela (née Iorio) D’Esposito. Joseph is survived by his devoted sister, Donna D’Esposito, his brother-in-law, Brian Healey, and his cherished life partner, Verna Rose Green. He will also be deeply missed by his aunt, Marie Caskey, along with many cousins and long-time friends who loved him like family.
Joseph earned his Associate’s Degree in Culinary Arts from the prestigious Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, NY. Cooking was not only his profession, but his passion. Whether preparing traditional Italian dishes or grilling outdoors at a summer barbecue, he found joy in feeding others. He also loved spending time down the Shore fishing and enjoying the peaceful rhythm of the ocean. A lover of classic film, vintage TV shows, and the timeless music of the 60s and 70s, Joseph had an old-fashioned spirit and a gentle heart. He was easy to talk to, loyal in friendship, and the type of person who made others feel welcome and at home.
